Baggies told to forget Peru playmaker

West Brom have been told they have little chance of snatching Peruvian wonderkid Cristian Benavente from Real Madrid's B team.

Real Madrid want to keep the 19-year-old midfielder in their B squad next year, according to reports in Spain, and refused a bid from Serie A club Catania for Benavente in the last few hours of the transfer window.

Reports have claimed that the Peruvian playmaker is on Baggies head coach Pepe Mel's wishlist and a £4.5million bid has been lined up for the summer, with the boss keen to attract more flair players to The Hawthorns.

Mel had Real Madrid's B side scouted on a number of occasions earlier this season when Benavente was featuring for the Spanish second division side.

However, the player's agent now appears to be trying to drum up interest in the talented Peru Under-20 star who has not appeared for Real Madrid B since November.
