West Brom have had an approach for Hamburg technical director Lee Congleton turned down as they look to replace Dan Ashworth.

It was announced on 17 September that Ashworth would be leaving the club to take up the position of the Football Association's new director of elite development.

Congleton was touted as a possible replacement for the 41-year-old after impressing as a chief scout at Chelsea and during his role at Hamburg.

It is understood that the Baggies have contacted the German club to enquire about his availability but they have rejected the offer and are reluctant to let him go.

Congleton is highly-regarded in the club's hierarchy and has been the centre of interest from a number of clubs who are looking to bring in their own technical directors.
