Boss completes his defence

West BromWest Brom boss Tony Mowbray now believes he has all the pieces in place in his defence which was a problem area last season.

Despite winning the Championship last season the Baggies had a worst goals conceded record than relegated Leicester City and Mowbray was keen to address that situation. This week he signed Ryan Donk and Jonas Olsson who join fellow recent arrivals Gianni Zuiverloon, Marek Cech, Abdoulaye Meite and goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail: "I identified that the defensive side of our team needed strengthening coming into the Premier League.

"Generally we needed to create more competition in the area.

"Over the summer we managed to do that and there is now more competition.

"The goalkeeping area has more competition and the full-backs and centre-backs have genuine competition for places."
