West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo says the reason Simon Cox was not part of the side wasn't because he was not playing well enough.

Cox volleyed home his eighth goal of the season against Plymouth on Saturday to keep the Baggies hot on the heels of leaders Newcastle and Di Matteo has explained why it took the summer signing so long to break into the side.

The Albion boss said: "He wasn't out of the team because he wasn't performing well.

"We changed the shape of the team a little bit and then we started to win games. That was the reason."
