Chris Brunt is battling to shake off a knee injury in time to feature in West Brom's trip to face Norwich City on Sunday.
The Baggies skipper has been ruled out of the last three games because of the problem which he suffered during the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with Newcastle last month.
And, while Brunt has been recovering well, he has not been on the training ground this week but boss Steve Clarke is hopeful of him participating before the end of this week with a view to him featuring at Carrow Road.
Clarke said in the Birmingham Mail: "Fingers crossed Chris will be available for Sunday. I gave the players the day off yesterday and I'm hoping Chris can join in training today.
"That might be a bit early - but Friday hopefully - which gives him a chance for the weekend."
Meanwhile, Clarke was also quick to praise fringe players such as Gabriel Tamas, Boaz Myhill, Markus Rosenberg and Craig Dawson for their performance in Tuesday's narrow 1-0 defeat at Manchester City.
He added: "I make changes and the ones that come in do great. It's been a group that has been in the top half all season. On another day we would have got something."
