Clarets edge closer to Dawson deal

Burnley have made a third offer for West Brom defender Craig Dawson with the latest £2m bid expected to be enough to land him.

The Clarets have been after the 24-year-old former England Under-21 defender for the past month and are confident of eventually securing his services as Dawson is keen to leave The Hawthorns for a new challenge.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has revealed he is closing in on some of his summer targets and hopes an offer of £2m will be accepted by the Baggies after having previous bids of £1m and £1.5m knocked back.

Dyche said: "There are a couple of things that are ongoing and a couple of fresh things that are just developing. It is a bit protracted with a couple of things, but sometimes that's the nature of how it is, if you can't throw money everywhere."

Albion head coach Alan Irvine is happy for Dawson to leave as he has signed defenders Andre Wisdom, Chris Baird, Joleon Lescott and Sebastien Pocognoli so far, while Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson are other first-team options.
