Southampton are reportedly set to pip West Brom to the signature of Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair by making a £5million bid.
Baggies boss Steve Clarke has been looking to take the 24-year-old to the Hawthorns this summer but he was hoping to secure him on a season-long loan deal from City.
Sinclair is known to be anxious to secure a move away from the Etihad Stadium after a frustrating season with the club following his £6.2million transfer from Swansea City last summer.
Sinclair was restricted to just two Premier League starts under Roberto Mancini last term, and even the change in manager at City has done little to enhance his prospects of being more involved this time.
However City are looking to move the player out on a permanent basis following new boss Manuel Pellegrini's big-money summer purchases for Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic.
That has alerted the Saints to his availability with reports suggesting they will pay City a transfer fee to buy him now as opposed to waiting until next summer which West Brom were looking to do.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring a new wideman with Jason Puncheon poised to leave and join Premier League new boys Crystal Palace on loan.
