Olympiakos are interested in West Brom centre back Diego Lugano but Pepe Mel may block the move as he is helping interpret for him.
The Greek champions are looking for experienced cover in the January transfer window after losing centre back Dimitrios Siovas to an injury last week.
Olympiakos, who are set to face Manchester United in the second round of the Champions League next month, have targeted Uruguayan Lugano to fill the gap.
The 33-year-old arrived at the Hawthorns on a two-year deal in the summer after a spell on loan at Malaga from Paris St Germain.
He has only appeared in four Premier League games this season but could be set for an increased role after the arrival of new boss Mel from Spain, with multilingual Lugano understood to be helping out with translation.
Mel will have the final say over whether to keep the veteran defender and he may prefer to keep him on board as much for his language skills as his value to the team at the moment.
