Mel rules out Betis return

West Brom boss Pepe Mel says he hopes to add to his squad this month but won't be looking to old club Real Betis for new recruits.

The Spaniard will hold his first press conference as Baggies boss on Thursday ahead of taking charge of his first game against Everton on Monday night.

Mel only began working with his new team at the start of the week but has already identified areas he feels are in need of improvement and says he intends to bring in some fresh faces during the ongoing transfer window.

A striker is thought to be top of Mel's wishlist but he has ruled out trying to bring in any of his Betis old boys after recently being linked with a move for Ruben Castro.

Mel told the Spanish media: "We (Albion) need reinforcements, but I'm not signing any Betis player. It's sacred for me.

"If there's anything that's impossible to buy in football then it is people's (fans') love.

"The Betis saga is so painful to me but I am nobody to talk about Betis.

"Here (in West Midlands) everything is at my disposal 24 hours a day. From the first day you have a house, a phone... They really wanted me to be here. They make things so easy for me."
