Molde chief executive Tarje Nordstrand Jacobsen has confirmed that West Brom have made an approach for boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

West Brom have been on the hunt for a new boss since Clarke was relieved of his duties following the defeat Cardiff on Saturday.

The former Manchester United man has been keen on a return to the Premier League for some time and the Baggies could hand him that chance.

The 40-year-old has impressed during his three-year spell in charge of the Norwegian club, leading them to two league titles.

Jacobsen said: "I can confirm that we have received formal requests, but will not say when they arrived or where they came from.

"Ole has a name that will always make him attractive. And he has a standing in England that makes him often a candidate there."

Former Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft has also revealed via Twitter that the Molde boss is interesting in opening up talks with the Hawthorns outfit.
