Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara has penned a new three-year contract at West Brom, with the option of a further 12 months.

The 24-year-old, who joined from Colo Colo last summer in a £1.4million deal, made a decent impact last season before suffering a

a broken metatarsal in February.

Roberto Di Matteo has been impressed with what he has seen of Jara, who has now effectively committed himself to the Baggies until 2014.

The Albion boss told the Express and Star: "Gonzalo fully deserves this new contract. He has proved an excellent acquisition and played a big part in our promotion success last season before his unfortunate injury.

"He is a total professional, has a terrific attitude and his versatility is a real asset to the squad."
