West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has taken Osvaldo Alonso on trial at the club with the view to offering him a deal in the future.
The Seattle Sounders midfielder had a spell with Everton two years ago, but failed to make much of an impression, and he is now at Upton Park for a week.
The 27-year-old, who started the MLS All Star game against Chelsea back in the summer, will be hoping to impress Sam Allardyce during his spell at the club.
Allardyce is not expected to splash the cash too much in the new year transfer window but admitted he could do with a few reinforcements.
"We always need a bit of help as a manager," he said.
"We're never going to turn one down are we? Or two! You've always got to try. If there's anybody there who can enhance or better the team, then we would like to go for them."
He added: "Whether that's short term, long term, it depends when the window opens who is actually available and who we can to get to come in."
