West Ham co-owner David Gold claims David Beckham is close to making a decision on whether he will move to Upton Park.

The former England captain is close to making his return from the Achilles injury that ruled him out of the World Cup and Gold is eager to bring the 35-year-old back to the Premier League.

Beckham is currently contracted to MLS side LA Galaxy but is expected to return to Europe in January, with Gold optimistic he will make the move to West Ham.

"We had some discussions with David's agents a few months ago and it was a possibility," Gold said. "He's preoccupied with a few projects but he's promised he will give every consideration to the possibility of joining us."

However, West Ham will face a battle for Beckham's signature as a number of clubs will be keen to secure a loan move for the veteran midfielder, with AC Milan also believed to be interested in bringing Beckham back to the San Siro.
