West Ham face a battle to land Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony with as many as five other Premier League clubs keen.
The Hammers appear to be at the front of the queue for the Ivory Coast striker who leads the Eredivisie goal-scoring charts with 26 in just 24 appearances.
That record has alerted other suitors to his abilities and there is likely to be a fight for his signature in the summer, especially as his current club do not want to sell and he is still under contract so they will not be bullied into any deals.
West Ham have the fourth-worst scoring record in the Premier League and they are also expected to lose Andy Carroll in the summer, when he returns to Liverpool, so the need for a new striker is paramount for boss Sam Allardyce.
He is preparing an offer in the region of £15m for the 24-year-old to keep other parties, thought to include Fulham, at arm's length.
