Boss looks for more Hammers players

Sam Allardyce has vowed to improve the West Ham squad this summer and claims he needs a much bigger pool of players.

A win over 10-man Tottenham on Saturday saw the Hammers reach safety ahead of their final game against title-contenders Manchester City, but for much of this year Allardyce's side have been fighting off the threat of relegation and he wants to avoid another season of struggle.

Allardyce has been under the threat of the axe, according to reports, and he says to ensure progress is made next season they need to spend in the close-season.

"We need a bigger and better squad; there is no doubt about that," Allardyce told the club's official website.

"As much good as the players have done since I have been here - and I'm not criticising any of them whatsoever as they've given all that they've got - our job is always to improve the squad as you can't stand still in this league.

"We've got to go out and find better players and hopefully that gives us more stability and better results sequence so we can move forward slowly but surely."
