West Ham are expected to make a final decision on whether to offer Carlton Cole a new contract after a friendly on Thursday.
Cole will be assessed in a behind closed doors friendly with south London rivals Charlton on Thursday afternoon before a decision is made on his fitness.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is short of firepower up front and had been looking to offer former striker Cole a short term deal but, as yet, the player has not proved his fitness and until he does he will not be offered a contract.
With Andy Carroll still miss due to injury and not expected back until November at the earliest, Allardyce will be keen to bolster his attacking options as soon as possible.
