West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is to seek assurances over his transfer budget in the summer before he commits himself to a new contract.

The West Ham boss is out of contract at the end of the season and there has been plenty of speculation about whether he will be offered a new one or not, although both co-owners have said he is the man for the job.

Allardyce himself has kept his council over a new deal but it has now emerged that he would not automatically sign a new deal if it were to be offered.

Instead the boss reportedly wants assurances that he will be given enough money to spend to ensure the Hammers have a competitive squad going into next season.

Although both David Sullivan and David Gold have always been quick to back their manager in the past, Allardyce wants assurances before committing himself to the club.
