West Ham look set to miss out on Everton centre-back Sylvain Distin who is out of contract at the end of the current season.
The Hammers look set to chance their arm with a bid for the France defender but Everton boss David Moyes is unlikely to be keen to see him leave, unless an offer is too good to turn down.
Moyes has made it clear that he wants Distin to sign a new deal at Goodison Park as he has appeared in all but three Premier League matches this season and is a first choice alongside Phil Jagielka in the backline.
Newcastle are being linked with a move for West Ham's James Tomkins but unless boss Sam Allardyce can get a replacement in first he is unlikely to allow Tomkins to leave.
