West Ham will have to fight off interest from Liverpool if they are to land Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem in the summer.
It was thought the Ivory Coast striker would be on his way to Russia but their transfer deadline came and went this week and there was no move for Bony.
He is now expected to stay in Holland until the summer and then both the Hammers and the Reds will battle it out for his signature, although there is still a possibility he could move to the Ukraine as their transfer window does not close until the end of business on Friday.
Vitesse interim director Erwin Kasakowski told Dutch newspaper AD: "No club in Russia came to us with an offer, so Wilfried will finish the season at Vitesse."
With Andy Carroll expected to return to Liverpool, Hammers boss Sam Allardyce needs to add to his front line and Bony is on his wanted list.
