West Ham scouts watched highly-rated Real Betis midfielder Benat Etxebarria over the weekend and a summer offer is now expected.
The 26-year-old's agent has recently claimed that the Spain international will leave the club at the end of the season and he has been attracting attention from across Europe.
The Hammers are keeping a close eye on the talented midfielder, who impressed in his side's victory over Celta Vigo, and boss Sam Allardyce could now make an offer in the region of £5million for him.
Bolton also had scouts in attendance but West Ham would be favourites to land him with a move to London appealing more alongside the lure of Premier League football on offer.
Benat's current contract with Betis runs out in June 2014 so they would prefer to sell this summer rather than lose him for free in 12 months' time.
He has also been linked with several top clubs in Italy, with both Juventus and Milan said to be keeping tabs on the player.
Benat has been at Betis since 2010 and has slowly carved out a decent reputation for himself in the club's engine room, scoring 14 league goals in just over 100 appearances.
