Hammers star relishes new role

West Ham star Matt Taylor is relishing his new role in the middle of the engine room for the Hammers rather than out wide.

The 32-year-old is often to be found at left-back or on the left side of midfield, but of late he has been thrust into the middle of the park and is enjoying his new position.

Taylor has started the last 10 matches for Sam Allardyce's men and admits the change has given him a new lease of life.

"I am just enjoying my football to be honest," Taylor told the Newham Recorder.

"I'm enjoying my chance to play because the older you get, the more you appreciate playing football because it won't be around forever.

"So from that point of view I am really enjoying it and if I can contribute to the team, I will be really happy with that."
