The former Norwich, Coventry, Newcastle and Blackburn man is now fully fit and marked his return to action with two goals in the 2-0 friendly win against Posh at London Road.
"He has been working ever so hard," Curbishley told Sky Sports News. "Obviously he finished the season and got himself fit at the end of season so he has had a bit of a run at it and maybe he has a little bit longer than perhaps the others.
"It is great for us. It is just like a new signing come back.
"Dean Ashton scored a couple the other day and now Craig Bellamy has come back and got a couple of goals so it is terrific for us."
Meanwhile, Curbishley was also full of praise for 23-year-old Swiss international Valon Behrami, who made a 66th-minute debut following a £5million switch from Italian giants Lazio last week.
"Valon obviously hasn't been doing too much, that's his first game in a while," Curbs added.
"So we told him to play well within himself. But he's a great athlete, got involved and kept streaking up and down the line."
