Andy Carroll could be back on the bench for West Ham's vital clash against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
The on-loan striker has been out since twisting his knee against Manchester United at the end of November but is close to full fitness and manager Sam Allardyce may include him in the squad.
The player will return to full training today and his manager is hopeful that he may be able to play some part in the game which will almost certainly see Hoops boss Harry Redknapp parade new £8million striker Loic Remy.
A source said: "He's been about a week ahead of expectations since he started receiving training. He's looking good and is back to full training today."
Joe Cole, who missed the FA Cup third-round replay defeat at Old Trafford, is almost sure to be included after he was given Wednesday night off to recharge his batteries.
The source said: "It's a bit like us going out and doing a load of gardening after a while away. You really feel it. The opportunity was taken to give Joe a rest but he'll be back for QPR."
