Reid delighted Hammers went for Song

West Ham defender Winston Reid has praised the club for bringing in experienced midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona this summer.

The Cameroon international joined the Hammers on a season-long deal from Barca last week, improving boss Sam Allardyce's options further in the first-team squad this season.

Reid says the former Arsenal man is exactly the type of player that was required at Upton Park and he cannot wait to play alongside him.

"Alex Song is a good player and will help improve the squad so I'm looking forward to working with him," he told the club's official website.

"The club has done a massive job to get him here. He's going to be a big player for us, he's proven himself at Arsenal and Barcelona and it's good that he's here."

Song, who left the Emirates for Barca in 2012, was also linked with Spurs, Liverpool and a return to Arsenal this summer but the Hammers were able to pull off a coup by landing the 26-year-old, who will hope to make his debut following the international break against Hull City on September 15.
