Co-owner David Sullivan claims a Hammers star, thought to be Kieron Dyer, should consider quitting the game because of injuries.
The former England winger has been plagued by injury problems since breaking his leg in a Carling Cup tie not long after joining the club from Newcastle in the summer of 2007.
He has only managed 18 games for the club and is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury which shows no sign of improving and although Sullivan did not actually name Dyer most observers believe he must have been the player he was talking about when he spoke to the Telegraph.
"There is one player who hardly plays at all who might have to accept retirement.
"We have to cut some overheads, staff who are on the administration side and support staff for the team and work down the contracts we have inherited which are terrible,"
