Striker injury boost

West HamWest Ham striker Dean Ashton is a relieved man after scans on his calf injury revealed no serious damage.

The 24-year-old has been plagued by injury problems for the past two seasons and the curse looked to have struck again when he hobbled off against Wigan having netted twice in the opening day victory.

Scans have since confirmed that he managed to escape any real damage and he should be okay for the clash with Manchester City at the weekend.

"I am really glad that is not a bad injury. I am looking forward to joining in training tomorrow and getting on with playing," he told the club's official website.

"Overall, I am really pleased with how pre-season has gone for me and then to get off to a good start in the first game - especially with two goals. Hopefully I can keep that going on Sunday."
