Thatcher to seal Town deal

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton expects to complete the signing of free agent Ben Thatcher on Wednesday.

Thatcher has not been short of options since Charlton released him at the end of last season, with the 32-year-old having trial spells with Wolves and West Ham.

But Town appear to have won the race after Magilton told the EADT: "It's moving forward now and we hope to bring it to a conclusion later today."

Ipswich will avoid a Premier League side in the second round of the Carling Cup after being seeded for tonight's draw.
