Wigan and Birmingham are leading the chase to sign Burkina Faso striker Moumouni Dagano, according to reports.

The Latics and Blues have been alerted to Dagano following the 28-year-old's goalscoring exploits for his country in the African World Cup qualifiers where he finished as the continent's top scorer with 12 goals - more than the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba and Freddy Kanoute.

Dagano is currently playing in Qatar with Al Khor but before that he played in Belgium and France and admitted he would relish the chance of a move to the Premier League.

Dagano, who is hoping to underline his credentials further in January's African Cup of Nations, said: "I am very happy to lead the goalscoring chart ahead of all the world class strikers all over Africa.

"My ambition is to play one day in England because their football is close to my own game. Hopefully, the African Nations Cup will give me that opportunity."
