Liverpool boss Rafael Bentitez is set to make a move for Wigan's Antonio Valencia in January after failing to sign him in the summer.

Benitez reportedly attempted to sign the Ecuadorian midfielder in the summer but Wigan boss Steve Bruce managed to keep hold of one of his best assets.

According to reports in the News of the World the Liverpool boss is set to make a renewed bid for the 23-year-old in January.

Benitez is set to test the Latics resolve with a £10million bid plus out-of-favour midfielder Jermain Pennant to try and prise Valencia away.
