Bruce sweating on ace

WiganWigan boss Steve Bruce could make a final foray into the transfer market this summer if Paul Scharner's ankle injury proves serious.

The Austrian suffered the problem against Barnsley on Tuesday night which could force the Latics boss' hand as he eyes a swoop to bring in some defensive cover.

Bruce told the Evening Post: "Our squad has a good depth to it. I'm delighted with what I've done, and I would have thought that is the end of our shopping.

"But we'll have to see how Scharner is. We haven't got a lot of cover at the back with Erik Edman being out at the moment. It's a concern."

Bruce has already landed Lee Cattermole, Daniel de Ridder, Olivier Kapo, Amr Zaki and Maynor Figueroa to his squad during the close season.
