Latics defender Emmerson Boyce is ready to commit himself to Wigan after confirming talks to extend his contract at the JJB Stadium.

The popular defender has had another solid season under Steve Bruce and the manager wants him signed up before he enters the final year of his current deal, which runs out in June 2010.

Boyce, 29, has made over 80 league starts since signing from Crystal Palace and hinted he would be more than happy to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

"My contract is up at the end of next season and we are in talks about a new one," he said.

"The club has always been good to me and I've had a good relationship with the fans."
