Wigan have been boosted by the news Victor Moses has not fractured his jaw and could be available this weekend.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez feared the worst when his influential forward was forced to leave the field against Liverpool after he took a kick to the jaw from Martin Skrtel.
Wigan will need Moses if they are to avoid the drop and Martinez is delighted to reveal the injury is not as serious as first feared and there is a chance he could even face Stoke at the weekend.
"We got him checked out straight away in the hospital because there was the potential for a fractured bone in his face," Martinez revealed.
"The results came back really positive and there was no fracture which allows us to treat him. We will see within the next few days whether he is available on Saturday."
Meanwhile Wigan also hope to have Hugo Rodallega and Mohamed Diame back in action sooner rather than later after the duo both returned to training with the rest of the squad.
"Momo had an unfortunate moment at training were he had a little injury to his groin," Martinez added. "I don't think it is anything too serious and we are talking about days for recovery rather than weeks which is really positive. Both players are training."
