Kirkland reveals aims

WiganWigan keeper Chris Kirkland wants to stay injury-free this season and claims he is not thinking about an England call-up.

Kirkland played all but one of Wigan's Premier League matches last season in his first year without major injury problems.

He said: "Last season was the first full season I have played since I have started football. It is the most games I've played so if I can take that again and play all season for Wigan that will be great."

Kirkland's primary aim is to retain his number one spot at Wigan and help them stay in the Premier League.

He said: "This league gets tougher every year so first thing is to make sure we stay up - and that is not being negative because it is a tough league and the teams that are coming up will be difficult to beat."

Kirkland, who has one England cap to his name, would not be drawn on his chances of making a return to the national side.

He said: "That is not the aim at the moment."
