Roberto Martinez insists his Wigan players will not throw in the towel despite Tuesday night's catastrophic 3-2 defeat by Swansea.
Knowing victory would take them out of the relegation zone with two matches of the campaign remaining, Wigan twice led, only to collapse against the Capital One Cup winners thanks to two truly awful goals.
It means Wigan approach Saturday's FA Cup final knowing they will, in all likelihood, have to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium three days later, and then Aston Villa in their final match to salvage their top-flight status.
On Tuesday's evidence, the task is beyond them. But Martinez is refusing to give up the fight.
"We never give up and we never throw the towel in," said Martinez. "This football club will never do that.
"We had an incredible opportunity against a team that is in mid-table who have not won for a while.
"You have to accept we shot ourselves in the foot.
"The second goal is a bad decision. From that point on the players couldn't be themselves and nothing went in our favour."
