Wigan have handed a trial to former Swansea midfielder Ferrie Bodde and could offer him a deal if he impresses.

The Dutch midfielder is well known by Latics boss Roberto Martinez following his time at the Liberty Stadium and there is a chance the pair could be reunited if he proves his fitness.

Bodde was being touted as a top talent and a number of Premier League clubs were keen to snap him up from Swansea, who were then in the Championship, before he suffered not one but two serious knee injuries.

The 30-year-old has since been released by Swansea and has been training with ADO Den Haag in his homeland in a bid to get fit and find a new club.

Martinez has problems in midfield following the injury to Ben Watson, while James McCarthur and David Jones have also had their problems, so Bodde could be an option if he is fit enough.
