Wigan Athletic are to check out in-form Scottish Premier League strikers Leigh Griffiths and Billy McKay at the weekend.

Griffiths, 22, is spending his second season on loan at Hibernian from Wolverhampton Wanderers but could be available in the January transfer window when the initial phase of his stint is set to end.

His 13 goals have moved Hibs into title contention and earned him his first international call-up for Scotland's friendly against Luxembourg in November.

Wigan have a reputation for unearthing talent from north of the border and have signed James McArthur, James McCarthy, Gary Caldwell and Fraser Fyvie in the past three years

The Latics are also showing interest in McKay, 24, who is arguably in hotter form after scoring eight goals in his last nine appearances for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

McKay got the winner for Terry Butcher's side at Celtic Park last month and followed that up with a brace against Aberdeen last Tuesday.

He also scored in his side's 3-3 draw with Ross County at the weekend and looks set for a full Northern Ireland call-up in the New Year.
