Roberto Martinez is thinking about offering a contract to on-trial former Everton and Rangers left-back Michael Ball.
The 30-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Manchester City came to and end at the end of last season and has been training with the club for three weeks.
The ex-England Under-21 defender, who won his only full cap in 2001, had been on trial at Portsmouth and rejected the chance to join Notts County because he feels he can still play at the highest level.
Martinez is looking for options on the left after the shaky performance of Erik Edman in the 9-1 defeat to Tottenham and the speculation that Maynor Figeoroa is wanted by Sunderland.
