Roberto Martinez is facing competition from Real Zaragoza in his efforts to take striker Jackson Martinez to Wigan in January.

It was thought the Latics boss had virtually sealed a £1million-plus deal for the Colombian hitman, who currently plies his trade with Independiente Medellin. However reports are emerging that managerless Spanish Primera Liga outfit Zaragoza are set to match what Wigan will offer for the highly-rated player.

Argentina's Racing de Avellaneda are also said to be interested, but it looks like it will be a straight fight between Wigan and Zaragoza. And with the Latics having the greatest spending power they will be favourites as Medellin are expected to sell Martinez to the highest bidder.
