Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has slammed his much-changed side after they lost 4-1 at Blackpool in the second round of the Carling Cup.

The Spaniard made nine changes with the likes of Mike Pollitt, Marlon King, Ben Watson and Erik Edman all starting the embarrassing defeat.

Martinez claimed his team showed little cohesion and he clearly expected more from his squad men.

He moaned: "We can learn a lot from this defeat. We tried to show too much individually, we never played as a team and there is no excuse.

"As a professional footballer you need to be ready for the chance when it comes along. Those who have not been involved in the league games were given an opportunity but it was not good enough."
