Midfielder rejects Latics exit talk

WiganMichael Brown has moved to dismiss suggestions that he is set to leave Wigan and join Premier League new-boys Stoke this summer.

The former Manchester City man had been linked with a move to the Britannia Stadium over the weekend, with claims that he surplus to requirements at Wigan.

But Brown, who was a regular for Latics last season - making 34 appearances, insists he is happy at the JJB and has not considered leaving the club during this transfer window.

The midfield told the Wigan Observer: "I got a text message over the weekend from a mate saying they'd read something about Stoke.

"It was the first I knew about it. I enjoy it here and I'm looking forward to the new season."

Speaking about the battle facing him at Wigan, Brown added: "Of course I welcome the competition. It keeps you on your toes knowing you've got to play well to stay in the side."
