Former Valencia right-back Miguel could secure a deal with Wigan if he can prove his fitness to manager Roberto Martinez.
The 33-year-old former Portugal international, who has been without a club since last summer when he departed the Mestalla after seven seasons, was looking set to join Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv following recent talks.
However, Martinez appears set to hijack that move by offering Miguel an opportunity to link up with the Latics' squad in the coming week.
The Spanish tactician insists it is not a trial but a way of checking on Miguel's fitness levels in order to see if he can be pitched into the side for the Premier League survival push.
"It's not a trial as such, I just want to see how he is," said Martinez in the Daily Mirror.
