Wigan boss Roberto Martinez retains an interest in Sevilla striker Arouna Kone and could make a move for him in the summer.
The Ivory Coast international opted to join German side Hannover in the January transfer window on loan for the rest of the season but revealed he had been targeted by clubs in England - widely thought to be Latics and Championship side Middlesbrough.
However, if the athletic frontman impresses in Germany a switch to the Premier League could be an option ahead of next season and Martinez is said to be keen on recruiting him.
"I am very happy to be here, I am looking for first team football," Kone told Sky Sports following his move from Sevilla.
"Hannover has given me the opportunity to do that.
"I could have gone to England, teams like Middlesbrough and another Premier League team were interested in me, but I chose Hannover because I will be ready here to force my way back in the Ivorian national team for the World Cup 2010."
