Wigan have been boosted by the news Ryo Miyaichi is back in training and could play against Liverpool this weekend.
The 19-year-old winger, who is on loan from Arsenal, has missed the last six weeks after picking up a groin injury while on international duty but is now closing on a return.
Miyaichi has joined in full training with the rest of the squad this week and, as long as he does not suffer any setbacks, he could be in contention to start against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
"We'll need to see how he responds to the work this week as the intensity of his preparations go up a level before we decide whether he can make the trip to Liverpool or not," he told the club's website.
"But it's great news that he is back training with the squad. The injury was a big blow to him after a bright start to the season but he remained positive throughout his recovery and is very close to 100 per cent again, which is great news for the team."
