Hitman to join Bluebirds

WolvesWolves striker Jay Bothroyd looks set to join Cardiff City after watching the Bluebirds' goalless draw against Ajax.

The former Blackburn and Charlton striker sat next to chairman Peter Ridsdale in the directors' box as Cardiff took on the Dutch giants.

Bothroyd was set to sign for Leeds United but the 26-year-old hitman turned them down and it now looks as if he is going to Cardiff.

Cardiff have been left light in attack after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was released, Robbie Fowler decided to join Blackburn and Marcus Bent turned them down to join Birmingham.

Should Bothroyd sign over the weekend, or early next week, he will be in contention to face Southampton in Cardiff's opening Championship fixture.
