Brian Laws is hopeful of securing the services of Wolves midfielder Darren Potter for Sheffield Wednesday following a successful loan.

The Owls boss was delighted with the player's input last season when he scored twice in 17 appearances while on loan at Hillsborough.

And Laws has revealed he is close to wrapping up a permanent deal for Potter, who has been told he can leave Premier League new boys Wolves.

No fee has yet been agreed but the Owls are close to sorting out personal terms with Potter.

"It's a step closer." Laws told the Sheffield Star. "We are in negotiations with the player and his agent. We hope to conclude it by next week.

"We are getting clear communication from Wolves. I have spoken at length with [Wolves chief executive] Jez Moxey about putting a deal together; he suggested that we agree terms with the player first before we go any further."
